Lush Lip Tints

Product: Lush lip tint - It Started With A Kiss
Source: Gift
Price: £5.50
Rating: 5 / 5

I have to say I love more or less everything I have ever bought or been bought from Lush; their products are just so enticing! I mean, I walk into the store and you would think the scent is overwhelming, but instead it just makes me want to shop! I have to stop myself going crazy in that store!

The colour of It Started With A Kiss is a vibrant red which, when applied, can seem a little bold, but it soon does what it says on the tin and becomes a bold(ish) red tint to your lips, which stays put for quite a while! I love the lip tint, it is quite a rich red colour, but isn't that why we bought the red? It makes your makeup seem more adventurous, but is not too much for university or work, but is enough to wear out at night!

It doesn't give you the shiny red lip that will end up transferred onto all glasses/mugs you use, leaving your lips with that pale 'I was wearing lipstick when I left the house' look! Your lips have that matte finish that I love, the lips don't seem to appear dry when not just applied. You can also always smell that lovely apple aroma that you get when you open the tin. But that's Lush for you; they know how to make a scent that lasts!

The lip tint is a bit pricey, since it is £5.50 for a 10g tin; but I've had other lip tints (Christmas range - currently unavailable) and they have lasted a long time, so I don't think the price is too extravagant.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

Product: Rimmel London - Stay Matte Pressed Powder
Source: Bought
Price: £3.99
Rating: 4 / 5

I have been using this product for months, only alternating really between different Rimmel pressed powders. Being winter my skin naturally has less shine, which I am undoubtedly grateful for! But I did use this product over the summer too, so I can review it properly.

My skin naturally gets shiny as the day goes on, making it so much easier for me to accidentally wipe my makeup off before I get home. With this powder however, when I get home my makeup is still in place; admittedly not as perfect as when I left the house in the morning, but definitely better than I expect! This is not due to applying layer after layer of powder, or even reapplying during the day in winter! (summer months may require reapplication if it is actually sunny - but here in Britain you will most likely only have to reapply once).

When I applied the powder it didn't feel as though I was suffocating my skin, as it has with a few other products. It is so easy to apply, and is hardly visible, apart from the matte finish which it gives your skin.

OPI Nail Lacquer - GoldenEye

Product: O.P.I Nail Lacquer, Skyfall range - GoldenEye
Source: Gift, bought as part of a set
Price: Amazon: £7.99 (15ml)
Rating: 4.5 / 5

General:
I received this item as a miniature, as part of a set for Christmas, but wore it this spring too, so in my opinion, gold is not just a Christmas colour!

Good:
This colour lasts for quite a while, as I first applied this product without a top of bottom coat (I know, I know, I really shouldn't have, but I was in a hurry) and it didn't chip until a few days later! The product really does stand out, as the gold may not be a totally metallic colour, but the glitter in the nail lacquer means that your nails will still reflect the light! As I have said before, new manicures are becoming more and more popular, and plain nail varnish is great for the weekday at uni, but for going out, you need something more! This product does just that, because as I said; I was in a rush and this didn't need me to apply more than one product, which is great!

Not so good:
I love this product, but for the effect I wanted, which was a bold gold colour, I did apply three coats. Now, I don't know if this will be the case for everyone, but it is good to know, if you really want to stand out.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara

Product: Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Mascara
Source: Bought
Price: £6.99
Rating: 4 / 5

General:
I personally always stuck to one mascara (still by Rimmel), but as this was on special offer I thought, why not?

Good:
The mascara seems to last ages, I think the last time I re-bought this was a few months ago! Which for me, is quite a while.
Personally I don't apply layer after layer of mascara until I have what appears to be three very clumpy eyelashes, as I have seen quite a few people sporting this look and I just don't see the appeal. That being said, however, this still makes my eyelashes appear quite a bit longer, which I am sure is the aim for quite a few of us.

Not so good:
I said that this product lasts a good while, however, after the first few weeks the brush tended to get a bit clumpy, which is why I normally prefer the plastic brushes. It is not a big problem, but when I forgot to get rid of them and applied the mascara I ended up sticking quite a few eyelashes together and ended up with a problem similar to the situation I mentioned above.

Velvet Flocking Powder

Product: Velvet Flocking Powder for nail art
Source: Bought
Price: Varies, own purchase £9.99 for twelve
Rating: 4 / 5

General:
Nail art is becoming more of a fashion statement than it ever has been, with new 3D nail artworks being brought out every month (many of which are on my wish list!). You don't need to be able to draw intricate designs on your nails or even go to the nail salon, there are so many products that can be used at home. This product is one of those use at home reasonably cheap and reasonably easy products.

I guess I should explain what flocking powder is, since I hadn't heard of it until only a few months ago! Flocking powder is small fibres (sort of imagine shredding a piece of velvet and collecting all those small, fine fibres). You apply the product to your nails so that they have a fuzzy feel once applied.

To apply the flocking powder:
1. Apply your base coat and first coat of nail varnish as normal.
2. Select the flocking powder that is the closest colour match to the nail varnish you applied.
3. Apply the second coat of nail varnish to each nail one-by-one, stoping each time to apply the flocking powder.
4. To apply the powder to your nails I would suggest using a pair of tweezers to pick up the powder in clumps and fully cover the freshly applied (still wet) second coat of nail varnish. Pat the nails to ensure the powder sticks to the nail.
5. Tap nails on the surface below (best to use a piece of paper) to get rid of any loose fibres and replace these to the pot.
6. Finished! No need to apply a top coat as this would ruin the effect of the velvet finish.

Good:
There are so many colours to choose from when it comes to flocking powder, I bought a set of twelve and until they run out I don't think I will need to buy any new colours. The powder is easy to apply and does stick to the nail well (as long as you cover the nail EVENLY - I made the mistake of slightly missing the sides of my nails and the measly amount of powder I had there drove me crazy).

The powder is in small pots which I thought wouldn't even be sufficient for one manicure, but it seemed as though I didn't use anything at all with the amount I had left at the end!

I think the main advantage is that it is such a good manicure! You can apply at home and it will last for days; I was a bit skeptical that as soon as I tried to do the washing up my manicure would be ruined but they stayed perfect. The velvet approach is great, they really do stand out from other manicures and I will use this product time and time again.

Not so good:
I often chip my nails and can quickly touch them up before I dash out the door. But, with the flocking powder, if you catch a nail or realise that the whole nail isn't completely covered, you would have to redo the whole nail from scratch again, which when you're in a hurry isn't feasible.

Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Blemish Stick

Product: Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Blemish Stick
Source: Bought
Price: £2.59
Rating: 4.5 / 5

General:
Personally I still have trouble with my skin from time to time, and being nineteen I have been trying to find products that are effective, work rapidly and are affordable. These three things are difficult to find in one product, so I have tried many products to find a solution. This one is my favourite (at the moment).

Good:
I have to start with the price, as this is an absolute bargain! I have paid much, much more for so much less in the past. I will admit that at times I think, 'it's a bit cheap, it probably won't work for me'  but at this price, I thought 'so what?!?!' if it doesn't work I'll just forgo a mocha (which I really should be doing anyway) and forget about it. But, no, I can safely say I did not need to miss my caffeine fix, and with how long this product will last, I will be able to amp up my caffeine intake for the next few months, as this is ALL I will need. This is a great product, I will admit it does not work instantaneously, but I would say I noticed a difference by the end of the day, and if you apply it at night you will wake up in the morning and not be afraid to look in the mirror. It may just be me thinking it is working more than it is, but thats because you can sort of feel it working as it seems to slightly dry the skin (without leaving those annoying dry patches) and calm the blemish!

Another thing I find terribly annoying when I use a product with the same aim as this, is when I try and apply my makeup afterwards. I always want to attack the blemish immediately and constantly until it has disappeared; which means I want something that will work during the day. But with most products I have tried, my foundation just won't apply on top of them! This is not the case here, as I can apply my makeup straight after applying the tea tree and witch hazel and I can't even tell a difference!

Not so good:
Some products claim you can apply them after applying your makeup, (which is great if they work). This product cannot be applied on top of makeup, as I found when I attempted this that the makeup obviously came off, which defeated the object all together.

Clinique Superbalanced Foundation

Product: Clinique Superbalanced Foundation (Alabaster)
Source: Bought
Price: £21.50
Rating: 5 / 5

General:
I doubt I am alone when I say I have tried many foundations to see which best suits me, which can be an annoying process, as so many foundations are rather expensive, so you feel the need to use them up before splashing out on a different product. This means it takes a lot of time! So, I was so happy when I found this foundation years ago (and I haven't looked back).

Good:
This foundation is so light you don't feel caked in makeup and your pores don't feel as though you are abusing them from the minute you swipe your foundation bush over them! It isn't necessary to apply a lot of this foundation either, as I think it gives you a great even coverage with minimal application. I can also apply the foundation in the morning and along with the other products I use, such as Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer, my makeup is still intact at the end of the day.

Not so good:
I would personally prefer the bottle to have a pump rather than just the glass bottle, as I often end up with too much foundation escaping the bottle and I hate to waste it like that. But, that is just the casing, the foundation itself is great!

Dolce and Gabbana 18 La Lune

Product: Dolce and Gabbana 18 La Lune Eau de Toilette 100ml
Source: Bought
Price: RRP £35.00
Rating: 5 / 5

General:
I fist got this over a year ago and haven't been without it since!

Good:
The scent is fresh but not too summery and I personally think you can wear for anything, from work to a night out. Because the bottle is 100ml you aren't likely to run out too soon, so I think it is a bargain! I can't say anymore without gushing over this perfume. I would  advise going out and trying it and see how amazing it is!

Not so good:
Absolutely nothing!

Rimmel - Fix and Perfect Primer

Product: Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer
Source: Bought
Price: £6.99
Rating: 4.5/5

General:
In all honesty I never thought I would buy a primer, I thought it was just something that either only pros or people who were lucky enough to live in the sun would need to purchase. So when I was shopping online and saw it was on offer (price above is normal, non sale Boots price) I bought it as an impulse buy and it has turned out to be something I will always have in my makeup bag from now on!

Good:
As I said, I was reasonably skeptical at first, so when I really loved this product I was quite surprised. I personally noticed the difference in how long my makeup seemed to last when I was wearing the primer. You really don't need much at all for the product to make a difference, so you don't have to replace the primer very often. It is so easy and simple to apply and foundation seems to apply better after it to (at least mine seems to).

Not so good:
Nothing!

O.P.I Nail Lacquer - The Living Daylights

Product: O.P.I The Living Daylights - Nail Lacquer

Source: Present

Price: Amazon - £9.75

Rating: 4 / 5

General:
I received this nail varnish as a gift and I absolutely adore it! I should probably confess that I am obsessed with O.P.I nail varnish, I treat myself whenever I find them in a store and then of course you can buy them online.

Good:
This product will actually last for quite a long time (up to a week) on your nails if you put a top coat on (and don't try and peel it off). It is also the type of product that although it stands out from the
crowd, it is not overbearing, I would definitely feel comfortable wearing it to university on a daily basis! The finished nail looks professional and with the popularity of manicures rapidly increasing this is actually a reasonably cheap mani as you can buy the product for less than £10 and use time and time again. Also, in respect to the intricate nail art that many people are favouring these days in order to stand out, this manicure is a simple way to have one of the best nail designs!

Not so good:
The nail lacquer does take a while to apply, as you need to apply two to three coats to get an even coverage, dabbing rather than brushing the nail. This will also mean that it can take quite a while to dry. However, in my opinion the overall outcome is worth it!
